Privacy Policy
How Lake District Film Studios collects, uses and looks after your personal information.
Who we are
Lake District Film Studios is a trading name of NEXI Media Ltd, a company registered in Scotland under company number SC749267. Our studio is at The Clocktower, Crofton Hall, Thursby, Carlisle, Cumbria, CA5 6QB.
For the purposes of UK data protection law, NEXI Media Ltd is the data controller for personal information collected through this website. If you have any question about how we handle your information, contact us at studio@lakedistrictfilmstudios.com or on +44 7342 820336.
What this policy covers
This policy explains what we collect when you browse this website, send us an enquiry about studio hire, sign up to hear about our events, or book onto one of them. It also explains what we do with that information, who we share it with and what rights you have over it.
Where we link out to other sites — a booking platform, a partner, a social network — those sites have their own privacy policies and this one does not apply to them.
Information we collect
When you send an enquiry. Our studio enquiry form asks for your name, email address and phone number, and optionally your company, what you are interested in, your preferred dates and a description of your project. Everything except your name, email and phone is optional.
When you join our mailing list. We collect your name and email address, and optionally your phone number and a message.
When you visit the site. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, which include your IP address, browser type, the pages you visited and the time you visited them. These are used to keep the site secure and working, not to build a profile of you.
We do not ask for payment card details through this website, and we do not collect special category data such as health or biometric information.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
To answer your enquiry and quote for studio hire. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests — you have asked us a question and we need your details to reply. If a booking follows, we continue to process your details to perform that contract.
To tell you about meetups, open days and studio availability. Our lawful basis is consent, which you give when you sign up and can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email or by emailing us.
To keep records of bookings and invoices. Our lawful basis is legal obligation, since we are required to retain accounting records, and legitimate interests in running the business properly.
To keep the website secure and working. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests in protecting the site against abuse and diagnosing faults.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing. We share it only with the service providers we rely on to run the studio:
- Brevo — delivers our email and manages our mailing list.
- TryBooking — handles registrations for our events. When you click a booking button on our Events page you are giving your details to TryBooking directly, under their own privacy policy.
- Our website hosting and email providers — store and transmit the information above on our behalf.
We may also disclose information where we are required to by law, or where it is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.
Where your information is held
Our providers may process your information outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens, we rely on the safeguards those providers have in place — typically UK adequacy regulations covering the country concerned, or standard contractual clauses approved for use in the UK.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not lead to a booking — up to 24 months from your last contact with us, then deleted. Studio projects often come back around, and we would rather have your original brief to hand than ask you to write it again.
Booking and client records — six years after the end of our working relationship, which is the period we are required to keep accounting records for.
Mailing list — until you unsubscribe, after which we keep a record of your unsubscribe so that we do not email you again by mistake.
Server logs — typically around 30 days.
Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies that make the site work — remembering your cookie choice, for example. These do not need your consent.
Anything that is not essential is blocked until you agree to it. When you first arrive you will see a cookie banner; nothing non-essential is loaded unless you accept. At the moment we do not run Google Analytics, advertising pixels or any third-party tracking on this site.
You can change your mind at any time through the cookie settings on the banner, or by clearing cookies in your browser. Blocking essential cookies may stop parts of the site working properly.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- have inaccurate information corrected;
- ask us to delete your information, where there is no good reason for us to keep it;
- ask us to restrict how we use it while a concern is resolved;
- object to us using it on the basis of legitimate interests;
- ask us to transfer it to you or another provider in a portable format;
- withdraw your consent to marketing at any time.
Email studio@lakedistrictfilmstudios.com and we will respond within one month. There is no charge for making a request.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we have the chance to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information — adding analytics, for instance, or a new booking system — we will update this page and change the date shown at the top of it. If the change is significant and we hold your details, we will tell you directly.
