On Tuesday 15 September we are opening the doors properly for the first time. Lake District Film Studios launches in partnership with Tech District Cumbria, who are using the evening to launch their new podcast — recorded here at the studio.
The evening opens with a panel discussion on the creative sector in Cumbria. We have brought together people actually working in the industry here to talk about where the region is heading, what is missing, and what becomes possible now there is somewhere to base a production. It is a conversation we have wanted to have for a long time.
From there we move into the launch of the Tech District Cumbria podcast, with a discussion about the show and where it goes next. Then the talks stop and the studio opens up: networking, tours of both studios, the green room and the production office, and food and drink on us.
Why this matters
Cumbria is arguably the one place in the UK without a film industry, while the Lake District pulls production in constantly with nowhere to base it. Crews travel in, spend their budget elsewhere, and travel out. Two properly equipped studios fifteen minutes from Carlisle changes that arithmetic, and this evening is the first chance for people in the region to see it for themselves.
